Pecan, Pecan, or Pecan

Another episode of Who-Pronounces-What-How

(well, actually only the second one).

I live in north Florida, and everyone I know (parents, siblings, friends) pronounce "pecan" as PEE- CAHN (accent on the first syllable, broad 'a' in the second).

But when I hear it pronounced PEE - CAN (accent on the first syllable, short 'a' in the second) I think of Georgia or Alabama Rednecks.

And when I hear it pronounced P'CAHN I think of anybody not from the South.
