`
Went to see the movie yesterday. And I didn't like anywhere near as much as I wanted to. It just wasn't amazing.
The first one (The Amazing Spider-man) wasn't too bad, and I bought the DVD when it was released, but I seriously doubt if I'll buy this second one.
(Maybe if I find it in the used bargain bin for a few bucks I might.)
I think the problem was that there was just too much pathos between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy (played by the cute, sweet-looking Emma Stone .
PP broke up with her because of a promise he made to her dying father in The Amazing Spider-man #1. Then he made up with her, then he broke up again, made up. Then she broke up with him, back together. SO tiring.
The main villain, Electro was pretty cool, and the SFX were great, but there was just no real excitement. And then just at the end Harry Osborn as the new Green Goblin shows up for about 10 minutes when Spidey kills him - whoopee.
And since I don't care about giving any spoiler alerts -- Gwen also dies at the end. She is falling from about 20 stories and at the last moment Spideys' web catches her in the midsection and it obviously broke her back since she was bent almost double.
Months go by, then Spider-man resurfaces to begin the fight against the next movie's baddie - The Rhino.
And who will be his girlfriend in the third movie? My candidate would be Osborn's assistant, Felicia, played by the very attractive Felicity Jones .
Out of 5 stars the best I can give this is a 2 (the first one a 4)

The new "Veronica Mars" Movie
`
If you never watched the "Veronica Mars" series, you should - NOW!
I went to the "Veronica Mars" movie starring Kristen Bell as Veronica. If you've seen the series then I don't have to list the characters. And if you haven't, then they won't mean much to you.
But you CAN go the the movie even if you haven't seen the show and still enjoy it. But if you go, make it soon. It is one of those special releases that may, or may not, be shown for a couple of weeks, depending on how many people attend.
Of course, you can buy all three three seasons of the TV series, and the movie from Amazon.com .
The movie is GREAT. And most of the old, familiar actors are back, and do a wonderful job recreating such delightful characters.
I don't know what else I can say, except if you DON'T see the movie, you are missing out on a good time!

The Bourne Legacy
'
Went to see the latest Bourne movie - "The Bourne Legacy."
I hate to say it, but it wasn't nearly as good as I expected. It moved rather slowly during the first half of the movie - setting up for the big finish. And it was almost boring.
The new guy was Aaron Cross, and in the first part of the movie we see him crossing icy streams and mountains in Alaska, with no explanation of why until later.
Interspersed with that we see scenes of people in charge of the Treadstone Project and Operation Blackbriar worried to death about being exposed.
(I suggest you rewatch "The Bourne Ultimatum" - the previous movie, to understand what the hell is going on.)
And it's all kind of tedious.
But the movie picks up when the beautiful Rachel Weisz shows up and "they" try to kill her, with Cross coming to her rescue seemingly out of nowhere.
There is an exciting motorcycle chase with Cross and Dr. Marta Shearing (Rachel) being chased by Manila cops and being hunted by an assassin sent by "them" at the same time.
Of course Cross and Marta get away.
(SPOILER ALERT! Whoops, too late!).
If there had been more action during the first half of the movie it would have been SO MUCH better. As it is I can only give it 5 out of 10 stars. And I'm glad I only paid $5 to see it.
I have the first three Bourne movies on DVD, but I very seriously doubt if I'll buy this one when it comes out.

"Total Recall" # 2
`
Went to see the remake of "Total Recall" and I LIKED IT!!
Once the hero went in to Rekall, the action began, and was almost nonstop. Lot's of excitement while he was being chased by his "wife" and other cops, both human and robotic. The story is similar to the original, with a few changes. For one, Quaid never ends up on Mars. The only inhabitable places on Earth are the United Federation of Britain and The Colony (Australia). And the only way to get from one to the other is via a gravity elevator that travels through the Earth's core.
Even when things slowed down the movie was good. The effects were of course excellent and the locations were interesting.
The robotic cops/army looked a lot like the Star Wars storm troopers with elements of Cylons. The city has lots of floating buildings for all the people to have someplace to live.

{For a more comprehensive synopsis click on the link.}
The stars of the movie are Colin Farrell as Quaid, the gorgeous Kate Beckinsale as his "wife" Lori, and the equally gorgeous Jessical Biel as his real love, Melina.
I rate this move a 9 out of 10! And I'll definitely buy the DVD when it comes out (new if it isn't too expensive; used if it is).

"The Dark Knight Rises"
`
Went to see the newest Batman movie. And it was't bad (meaning it was good; not great, but worth the $5 I spent for the matinee. Doubt if I'd pay $10 to see it. I could have paid $9.50 for the 3-D IMAX viewing, but didn't).
It ran over two hours, and they went by pretty fast. The action was pretty good, and even the slow part were interesting. I think I like Christian Bale as Batman over the others (Michael Keaton, George Clooney or Val Kilmer). But maybe it's just because it's the last one I've seen.
The regulars were there - Michael Caine (Alfred) and Morgan Freeman (Fox), and Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman). And they all were good. (Have you ever seen a movie when Morgan Freeman wasn't?)
Of course the newest addition was Cat Woman played by Anne Hathaway. I like Anne, she's pretty and she always does a good to excellent job in her roles. And she played Cat Woman as you would expect - self-serving until it was crunch time.
But, saying all that, I'm not sure if I would pay full price for the DVD. I've never been a big Batman fan. Maybe I just like my heroes with super powers.
I rate this a 7 out of 10.

"Avatar" the Movie
For the second time in three weeks I went to see Avatar. Both times I went during the week to the 11 am matinee, and maybe, maybe there were ten people in the theater - just the way I like it. But before I get into the movie itself, I have to say there NEEDS to be an intermission. The movie runs about two hours and forty five minutes, and the last hour I was in PAIN, I had to pee so bad!
As for the movie, of course I paid the extra $3 for the 3D version (it would be stupid NOT to see it in 3D). And it was well worth it, the 3D was excellently done. About the only thing I could criticize, and there may not be any way to avoid it, was when things went by in a blur my eyes were a bit -- uncomfortable.
The story is nothing really new -- the bad guys want / need to get the indigenous people (the Na'vi) off their land so they can have it for themselves. In this case it was a very rich deposit of an element called Unobtanium, with sells for something like $2,000,000 (or maybe $20,000,000) per gram (or maybe kilogram) under their Home Tree.
The Hero, Jake Sully, takes his twin brother's place when he is killed as a "controller" of an Avatar. Avatars are grown (semi-cloned) using DNA from humans and the Na'vi. And there are a few differences in them. For instance, the Na'vi have three fingers and a thumb (ditto for their feet), the tank-grown Avatars have four and one.
As Jake, in the Avatar body, becomes more in tune with Na'vi and the jungle he takes on more of their ways and feelings, and eventually becomes one of them. But the Bad Guys (from Earth) decide Jake can't get the Na'vi to move from their Home Tree (where the ore is) and so they attack it, bringing it down with rockets (it stands forty or fifty stories tall, more or less). So Jake helps the Na'vi (and all the animals of the jungle) defeat, and send packing, the Earthings. And thanks to the link with the Na'vi's deity/goddess Jake permanent leaves his human body for his Avatar body.
And they lived happily ever after - until the sequel.
I really like the movie despite its length. And except for having to pee, the movie moved along and you (I) really didn't realize how long it was. And once into the story, the 3D was so natural you forgot about it until the story slowed down and once again you were aware of it.
And yes, I certainly DO recommend everyone go see it.
One last thing -- the female Na'vi wore next to nothing and, being male, I was checking them out, seeing if I could see anything that might be considered a nipple-slip / genital-slip. But since they were kind of paisley blue it was hard to tell. And of course, James Cameron only showed us what he wanted us to see.
